The Inspiration for
Dylan Monkey & Squishy Face, an iPhone / iPad Storybook App For Kids
A Message from Thuong
Pham, creator of Dylan Monkey & Squishy Face
When my eldest son Dylan turned two years old, he suddenly went from grunting like a caveman to narrating his every thought.
I don’t like to walk; I like to run. Soon I realized that even though he had just begun talking, he had been wondering about the world around him for a while.
Does the sun make ice cream? What can I squeeze to make jelly? What else can I glue
besides paper?
It was Dylan who noted his very chubby baby brother Dustin was squishy, and so came about Dylan Monkey & Squishy Face. Now four and two years old, they explore the
world together like two little monkeys.
While it’s been a blast spinning in circles and playing Ring Around the Rosie, my favorite part of the day is watching them interact with each other. Dylan Monkey is a thinker and a creator; Squishy Face is an opportunist, always at Dylan Monkey’s side, mimicking him or tagging along despite Dylan’s plight for privacy.
As for me, my boys love me unconditionally no matter how frazzled I may be. Even on those
more than occasional days where I forget to brush my hair, Dylan Monkey & Squishy Face find me dazzling, nonetheless.
In short, I created the Dylan Monkey & Squishy Face Series
(iPhone / iPad app for kids) to capture the spirit of this very brief moment I have with my boys just as they are now.
It is my best hope that you and your children see yourselves in Dylan Monkey & Squishy Face and laugh along with us
because this is a FUNNY APP FOR FUNNY KIDS.

Why do the characters have tails?
Ever since Dylan was born, I called him Dylan Monkey. First
because it was cute and then it just stuck. I think most parents
liken their children to monkeys because of their boundless
energy and creativity.
When I
first saw the illustrations for Dylan Monkey, Squishy Face, and Frazzle
Dazzle, I felt they were missing tails. As a mother, I sometimes
wondered how much more could be done if I had a tail. But then the boys
would have tails too! How crazy fun would that be?
